After hearing my 6 months break travelling around many parts of the World, many of my friends ask me, "So, Gwen, out of so many modes of transportation, what is the best way to travel?" I've never really thought about it before. But when I think about it, motorcycling is the best way.
Travelling via motorcycle is relaxing. You can go as fast as you want, or take your time and stop at every single rest stop along the way. You really get to see the country in a way that driving, taking the bus or the train will never achieve. You get to soak up the Spanish sun or smell the Italian breeze. You get to rub shoulders with the locals and have coffee at their favourite diner. It is an experience.
I travelled on motorcycle with my dad in Spain, Portugal and Italy in May and June 2011. In Spain, we covered many places, e.g. Santiago, Villafranca, Salamanca, Llanes. In Portugal, Porto and Guarda. In Italy, we stayed in Florence, but travelled to Sienna, Pisa, Sant' Gimignano, Arezzo and others. It was glorious! The scenic and curvy routes were planned out every day for you. All you had to do was hop on the motorcycle, and go!
Luggage. How did we carry the luggage? We travelled with Edelweiss Bike Travel. They are a tour company that organizes motorcycle tours in 6 different continents, one of them being Europe! They had a support vehicle trailing behind us. So, all the luggage goes in the van. There's even a back-up motorcycle in the van, just in case anything screws up.
The amazing van can also be converted into a picnic setting!
Oh, and with Edelweiss Bike Travel, you don't need to plan for dinners and where to put up for the night. It's all taken care of. They book great hotels and even do the little things like, putting your luggage in your room. Therefore, when you arrive after a long, fantastic day of riding, you can go to your room straight to relax and take in your new surroundings. And the food is of the best quality. Yum, yum!
Either way, I really support Edelweiss and their travel style. In fact, we have a joint venture. Hello, my name is Gwen, and I am a brand ambassador for Edelweiss Bike Travel. So, if you are interested in Edelweiss Bike Travel, or just have a question or two about travelling, drop me an email!
Rainer Buck, Managing Director of Edelweiss Bike Travel.
And, me.
