Pompeii in the Blazing Heat

I visited Pompeii back in June 2011. I was very excited about it but unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. Maybe it was because the internet painted such a beautiful picture of the ruins of Pompeii, or maybe it was just the Italian sunshine?

Anyways, for those who don't know, Pompeii is famous for being destroyed by ashes by Mount Vesuvius. Although the volcano is currently dormant, many have claimed that its' next eruption is way overdue. You see the white long telephone look-a-like thingy? That is a guide. There's a map that takes you around the place, so you press the buttons on the guide and it shall explain. But let me say that the lady who rented us these devices was rather curt. I didn't like her.

As you can tell, okay, maybe you can't. But Pompeii was a city were technology and intelligence was running high. For example, to prevent people's feet from getting wet. They have mini pedestals on the pedestrian walkways so when it rains you can step on those pedestals. These pedestals are placed in a way that horses and their carriages can pass without any problem. It's really the little things that count!

But geez, the heat was just so overbearing. It was incredibly difficult to really appreciate the place. Yes, a lady actually took off her shirt.

Whenever a volcano eruption happens, it's the ashes that kill you. You can't breathe, you can't see. Some survivors have actually recorded that they were not able to see sunlight for the longest time. They could not tell apart day from night.

But none the less, mum, dad and I made the place fun anyways!

I would like to make a special shout out, happy birthday Ivan! 30 November babies are cool, but you're the coolest! Love you, bro. See you in 2 weeks!

On another note, I am currently having my exams. 2 more papers to go! I will be flying to China for a Corporate Trip with my university. I will, of course, be updating you along the way, so keep yourself updated! (;
